June 2016
                             A graduation present

Our former intern and new Furman University graduate Carryl Tinsley
From the pastor:

You never know who's listening, do you?
That's how I felt when I saw a homeless man's words staring at me in colorful cartoon form on a Furman University web page. I repeat similar words in every speech I give: "The worst thing about being homeless is being looked right through."
But now they were paraphrased on a page devoted to audios from five graduating Furman seniors, one of whom was Carryl Tinsley, a young woman who'd interned with us her sophomore year. Carryl formed relationships with people during that year, learned to see them as individuals with worth and dignity.
As you can hear from Carryl's interview, she got it. She tells about coming back to worship during her senior year and being recognized by a man she'd befriended.
"For my whole life, I've served the homeless," she said, "but I'd never been in relationship with them."

We have been nominated to potentially receive $10,000 from Fluor Foundation's Global Community Project Fund. As we try to be good neighbors here at Rutherford and Stone, we have requested shade trees and landscaping for our new parking lot expansion.
        But we need your help.
Ten winners will be selected by online voting. You can vote once per day per device between now and June 17 at the following link. Scroll down to Triune Mercy Center. We're 13th on the list.
