Triune Mercy Center
December 2017
 Christmas at Triune

From the pastor:

If you have been around Triune for awhile, you know that we believe our hurting and marginalized citizens need much more than food or blankets or toiletries. And so we offer art, music, theater, a place to volunteer, a place to worship, a place to belong.
We have taken our homeless and formerly homeless parishioners on mountain hikes, to lectures at Furman and to community theater productions. We have introduced them to Broadway and opera in our own concerts. Perhaps, most importantly, we have introduced them to all of you who join us here.
This Christmas season we have another "first" to combine multiple populations -- a holiday concert by the dynamic young people of the Phillis Wheatley Repertory Theatre. The theater's director Sammy Dotson joined us this year as Triune's music director, so the popular annual Christmas concert from Phillis Wheatley moved here as well.
The Perfect Gift: A Christmas Celebration will be at 6 PM December 9 and 10 in our sanctuary, and will also feature the Nicholtown Baptist Church Choir and Triune's Voices of Mercy.
Sammy brought a dozen of his Phillis Wheatley teens to sing for a Sunday morning service in November. Half of our congregation was on their feet, cheering, while the other half wept with the realization of what was going on in the lives of these young people. Then they stood and cheered, while the other half cried. It was that kind of day.
We hope you will join us for this holiday concert. Admission is free, and a love offering will be taken to benefit Phillis Wheatley and Triune's music program.
                                                            * * * * * * * *
You are also invited to our Christmas Eve
services  at 11 AM and 6 PM on December 24.

We hope your Christmas gift giving will include Triune honor cards. This year's card was created by Fred Wood, a noted Greenville artist, Triune worshiper and art room volunteer.
"Unseen Greenville" is a painting he did early during his time at Triune. At the bottom are faceless human shapes, the view that most people see as they drive along Stone Avenue. But when you come through the church, pictured at the top, those humans acquire faces -- and names: Charles, Otis and Meno.
We love "Unseen Greenville" and have it prominently displayed at our Stone Avenue entrance.
Now you can enjoy it as a way to honor a friend or relative by giving to Triune's work with Greenville's unseen population. Inside are these words:
A gift has been given in your honor to Triune Mercy Center.

This holiday gift will spread the joy of Jesus Christ
to the homeless and hurting people Triune serves.
You may purchase the cards in our reception area at 222 Rutherford Street or by mailing in the form below. Minimum donation is $10.
If you want us to address, stamp and send them, enclose your mailing list as well as the signature you want on the card, and an extra $1 per card, please.
We hope you will allow these Greenvillians to be seen.
"Unseen Greenville" by Fred Wood is our Holiday Honor Card.
